June 2014 Journal of the Rotary Club of Lake Buena Vista Page 3
FROM THE INCOMING LEADER
Marti Trieschmann
Dear Fellow Lake Buena Vista Rotarians,
As you read this, I am currently attending the Rotary International Convention in Sydney,
Australia. My wish is that I return from the trip with a lot of new information that I can
share with our membership to help “Light up Rotary”! Be sure to check out our
Facebook page as I will be posting pictures and information throughout the conference.
They can be found at www.facebook.com/rotarylbv.
I want to tell you how honored I am to be able to serve as our Club President for 2014-
2015, and also want to share with everyone something that might be a little different this
coming year.
When I became President-Elect designee, I traveled very little and was able to attend 100% of our meetings. This
has since changed with my position in Grand Cayman. I have spoken with the Board of Directors, and several of our
Past Presidents have graciously agreed to cover for me during my travel. I cannot be more thankful to them, as I
would have had to step down and miss this wonderful opportunity to serve. So, although I will not have 100%
attendance at OUR club, I will always be available to all of you at any time – email at MartiRotaryLBV@gmail.com.
As the new Rotary Year is about to begin, planning for the future has been number one on my mind. What would I
like our club to accomplish in 2014-2015? Below are some of the initial thoughts:
- Become a 100% Paul Harris Society Club – once the Club receives the designation it will continue throughout
the life of the Club! I will be challenging each of you who has not received a Paul Harris Fellow designation to
earn one. More on how to do this in future issues of this e-magazine.
- Get five of our core members (5 years or more of membership) and ten of our new members to complete
classification talks during the year. Ray Maxwell has graciously agreed to do his on July 10, 2014, mark your
calendar now, as I cannot wait to hear about Ray’s life and career!
- Increase education for our members about Rotary--have Rotary moments; get more Rotary District speakers;
have four members complete Rotary Leadership Institute III during 2014-2015; and focus on Rotary
Foundation education.
- Increase meeting attendance of current members from an average of 50% to 70%.
- Have each Rotarian bring at least two guests during the Rotary year to help increase membership.
- Chose a charity that will enable members to see first-hand how their fundraising is having an impact on lives
here in our community, and be actively involved, consistently for long-term impact.
- Improve communication by informing members not only “What to Expect” prior to the meetings, but also
“What you Missed” for those unable to attend.
- Rotaract – see the completion of the UCF Rosen School of Hospitality Rotaract Club, begin an Interact Club
and work with an elementary school on the Four Way Test program.
- Maintain a balanced focus on all five avenues of Service: Club Service, Vocational Service, Community
Service, International Service and Youth Services.
- Conduct at least one International joint Rotary meeting via Skype. We are already researching luncheon
clubs in England and dinner clubs in Asia/Australia at times that would match up.
So, there’s a lot to consider, but I want to make the club meaningful for YOU. I am sure things will change as we
move through the year, and I welcome all suggestions and feedback!
My wish is to serve well, engage all and “Light up Rotary” in the Rotary Club of Lake Buena Vista.
YIRS,
Marti Trieschmann, President-Elect
