Happy Autumn, Rotary Family!
Sure does feel like Autumn outside doesn’t it? The crisp mornings, bright sunny
but cool days, leaves changing to bright colors........hey wait a minute......
that sounds like New England......thought you might enjoy a trip up north for a
brief moment. Trivia Question: what am I wearing and what am I doing in New
Hampshire? Email me your answer by October 10th. Winner gets a prize at the
October 11th meeting.
Anthony also brought us on a wild trip of his life adventures this past month.
(after a hilarious introduction engineered by Jeff Calvert, our Club Comedic
Director). Starting in Toronto, where he was raised, and then Atlanta during
his finance career and then to Orlando where he developed his own Home Building Business, Osprey
Custom Homes. We all enjoyed Anthony’s sense of humor and learning about his love of hockey, skiing,
boating, traveling, and food. Thanks for letting us get a glimpse of your life Anthony. By the way, I am
available next weekend for that boat ride. lol Rommel also shared his life story beginning with the “other”
Colombia that has cities filled with high rises and commerce, and a fun fact that nearly 80% of cut flowers
sold in the US come from Colombia. Rommel also talked about his work career in the semi-conductor
world and his current ownership of Calima Insurance, named after a Lake in Colombia, meaning peaceful.
Not so peaceful is Rommel’s secret life as a Tough Mudder. Yup, the well dressed, intelligent and ever
resourceful Insurance Business Owner doubles as a slip slidin’, get down and dirty, roll in the slop Event
Mudder. Now that’s an agent I want to do business with. You should too!!
Secily and Michi, our RYE student also shared some stories with us. Secily updated the Club on the
tremendous progress of the WOW Legacy Foundation. This Fall we plan to partner with WOW on a
community service project. Michi delivered a well polished speech to our club this month. His interest to
learn about another culture and lean into discomfort to grow as a person is truly inspiring. I look forward to
his next update.
I want to welcome Roger Gasperson to our family! He is not in the same cycle of life as Michi but he
is just as inspiring! Roger brings humor, humility, kindness, and a life long background of food service
experience to our Club. Welcome aboard!
Closing message: In September we finalized our criteria for selecting a signature project in the greater
Orlando community. Led by Anthony we hope to select a project in the next few weeks. But we need
everyone’s help and ideas. Please contact Anthony if you have a passion about filling a need somewhere,
tackling a project that would involve club sweat equity, or volunteering time somewhere that will make a
difference or meet a need not yet met. The more ideas we come up with the more likely we are to select a
meaningful and lasting project. Think beyond this year too. This is not intended to be a one and done. It is
meant to be sustainable.
Please keep Mel and Garth and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
