Dear Lake Buena Vista Rotarians –
With September being New Generations month, I wanted to use this time to
update everyone on our status with the goal of beginning a new Rotaract
Club at UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management in conjunction with
the Dr. Phillips Rotary Club and Rotary Club of I-Drive. I am pleased to say
that we are well on our way to having this goal accomplished and it will
soon be a reality.
A Staff Faculty Advisor has been identified: Instructor Perry Lynch whose
expertise is in Catering, Convention Services and Event Management who
was recommended by Duncan Dixon, Dr. Phillips Rotary Member and
professor at UCF Rosen College. Once we had the Staff Faculty Advisor
selected the next step was to identify a student who would have the passion
for Rotaract. This student was identified by the Rotary Club of I-Drive, as she was the recipient of the book
scholarship bestowed by the club. Joanna Pucciball, is a natural as she is passionate about service as she just
returned from a mission trip to Nicaragua with her Honors Club, and is excited to also showcase all five
avenues of service to fellow students, including vocational service. Joanna and Perry have already applied for
permission with the UCF Student Organization and as soon as that is approved, the application will be
submitted to Rotary International.
Within the next month, we are expecting the following to occur and this is where our club will take a more
active involvement with the Rotaract Club.
• There will be a club information day(s) – we will ask members to volunteer to speak with students about
Rotaract;
• Informational meeting(s) - all clubs will be asked to send representatives to assist informing interested
students
• Rotaract Club Officers elections – the “Rotaract representative” from each club – Luis Figueroa has
volunteered to take on this role – will assist them with this process
• Charter night – all clubs in the district will be invited and as the sponsoring club, we will want a great
showing of members
• Ongoing – we will be assisting them with their projects and them with ours (I can already see Relay for
Life be so much more energetic with the college students at 4:00am)
In addition to Rotaract, we are considering starting an Interact Club, we will be sponsoring RYLA students again
this year, and of course we always have the Harry Boardman Scholarship each year. I hope you feel proud of
what we are accomplishing with today’s youth – tomorrow’s Rotarians!
YIRS,
Marti Trieschmann, President
