Our Rotary Club supports the Perry Pavillion with donations in the past. It is most gratifying to learn more
about the number of people whose lives are touched by Perry Pavillion volunteers.
The International Drive Resort Area Chamber of Commerce
Ambassador of the month is Cheryl Cyr, Hospitality Relations
Manager at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital. In addition to managing an
extensive volunteer program at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, Cheryl is
also in charge of managing the Cynthia C. and William E. Perry
Pavilion. The Perry Pavilion provides a place of warmth, familiarity,
comfort and security for families of patients from outside the Orlando
area. Dr. P. Phillips hospital serves over 80,000 patients each year
in the Emergency Department, and many of these patients are
tourists visiting from out of the state and from out of the country.
The last thing you need to worry about when a loved one is ill is finding a place to stay. The two-story Perry
Pavilion is designed to comfortably accommodate up to 10 families with overnight lodging. Thanks to many
generous individuals such as Cynthia and William Perry, local hoteliers and lodging associations who
funded this project, the pavilion is available within the walls of Dr. P. Phillips Hospital.
At the heart of the Perry Pavilion is Cheryl Cyr. Cheryl helped open the facility. Every month for the past
100 months, patient families have been asked to rate the service of Cheryl and her staff provide. The
result? 100 percent scores for all 100 months! This accomplishment is truly remarkable and is deserving
of our prestigious Ambassador of the Month award.
So what is Cheryl’s secret? Her friends and colleagues have shared that she often gets to work before
sunrise to make sure that patient families have fresh baked cookies to greet them when they arise for the
day. She will often stop at Wal-Mart on her way in to work to pick up items that she knows will make a guest
stay more comfortable or to help celebrate a special event for a patient family like a birthday. More times
than not, Cheryl is purchasing these extras with her own money out of the kindness of her heart.
Cheryl gets to know every patient family by name staying at the Perry Pavilion and they can count on her to
be there for them when needed. She is a true professional and we are fortunate that she is such a kind and
giving ambassador for families in need visiting our area.
Cheryl and her staff receive many favorable guest comments. One former patient family wrote: “I remember
being in the ER and the guest services representative telling me this place existed. I immediately started to
cry! I was here with my family and mom who has cancer and 3 children. It wasn’t until I got here that I fully
understood the magnitude of warmth and understanding this place and team offered. What an amazing
idea and gift this place is. I’ve told everyone who will listen about the experience here. God and doctors
willing, we will be leaving in the next couple of days.”
