Gears and Ears
Journal of The Rotary Club of Lake Buena Vista
May 2018
From Club President Eddie Fernandez
Dear LBV Rotary eMagazine Subscribers,
Not many April shower to speak of as the saying goes. But if we want to use
the analogy of showers against the level of fellowship, service, and business
accomplishments for the last month, then I’d say we are soaked.
Thank you for all your support during the LBV Relay for Life event in
April. Our team had raised over $7,000 so far for the event the and the
entire initiative raised almost $85,000 by the closing ceremonies. We had a
group of true professionals who stepped up to make our theme and tent truly
outstanding. Thank you Team Captain Jean and thanks to your entertainment
crew of Jeff Calvert, Augustine, and others who helped setup the decorations. Thanks to Anne Peach who
was educating participants about breast cancer awareness. And to those brave souls who toughed it out and
spent the night on the track.
We also had a great event at LBV Rotarian Shelley Freeman’s establishment, House of Beer, for our first
Tuesday Social. Thank you Shelley for hosting our event. Hopefully no one got too out of hand and you’ll
consider having us back again one day. We can be a rowdy bunch at times. We’ve gotta keep our eyes on
that Pam Elliott character. J (Great to see you Pam)
And last but not least, we mean business. Rotary Means Business that is. LBV Rotarians Shelley Freeman
Rommel Mosquera have been a part of spearheading the Rotary Means Business initiative here in District
6980 and they’ve been doing a phenomenal job. The first Rotary Means Business event ever in our District
was hosted in April and had a turnout of over 70 Rotarians getting together to discuss business and network
themselves with like-minded Service Above Self individuals. Great initiative. Thank you both for your
efforts.
This will be the second to last message I get to share with you in this capacity before the end of our Rotary
year next month. I appreciate all your time, your efforts, and your commitment to yourself and our club.
Together we’ve made it through another year stronger because of the individual strength you’ve shown in
Being Your Best Self. MAY you have a wonderful month.
Yours in Rotary Service,
Eddie Fernandez
