Gears and Ears

Journal of The Rotary Club of Lake Buena Vista
                                                        April 2018

                               From Club President Eddie Fernandez

                                      Dear LBV Rotarians and Subscribers,

April showers bring May flowers.... At least that’s how the saying

goes. Here in Florida though, anything goes. Just when I though that Winter
was over and had put all my coats away, another cold front rushes through
and proves to me, and many other native Floridians, that when we think
we understand the Sunshine State, it clearly doesn’t want to be understood.
Mother Nature certainly has a sense of humor and is not afraid to use it.

And so begins the month of April. March came and went as quickly
as ever and it’s hard to imagine that we are a quarter of the way through
the calendar year already. So much to accomplish and so little time to do so. Don’t give up yet, keep your

volunteering engines roaring. Before this Rotary year is over in June, we have several more activities going
on. The first of the big ones left before the end of this Rotary year is Relay for Life.
Although not a fundraiser that benefits our club directly, it certainly is a cause that benefits all of
humanity making us stronger in the the fight against cancer. This is the 12th year for the LBV Relay for Life
event. An event that was started by the efforts of our very own Rotarian Ray Maxwell. Thank you Ray. This

years’ event will begin on Saturday, April 14 @ 1pm and end the following morning @ 8am. Join the LBV
Rotary team, or if you have commitment issues, just stop by and visit for a little while. I promise it is like no
        other Relay you’ve ever attended.

Some other events to look forward to are this month’s Tuesday Social at LBV Rotarian Shelly
Freeman’s venue, House of Beer. We’ll also be getting ready for our golf tournament in May, another road
cleaning soon, and our End of Year Party.
So break out the rain gear as you prepare to hunt for Easter eggs this month. And remember to
congratulate our newest member Patti Kelly to our club.
